Meet The Blogger

Hey everyone! I was thinking the other night that I really haven’t done much to introduce myself. Of course there is a little ‘about me’ page on my blog but is that really enough? I think not. I Googl'd meet the blogger kinda questions, and these 20 are what I found.

So I’m JJ! A lot of people know me as John but I’ve been called JJ since I’ve been born: it’s short for John Junior. Pretty much no one in my family calls me John. In fact it would probably take them a second or two to realise it was actually me if someone didn’t call me JJ.

But anyway, who is JJ? JJ is the vegan, the academic, and the Gilmore Girls obsessed blogger behind jjsvegankitchen.

What’s your favourite book?

There are many, many books I’ve read over the years that could easily compete for this position. But one book I always seem to go back to is Kate Morton’s The House At Riverton.

What’s your favourite ice cream?

When I went vegan I wasn’t much into ice cream anymore. Most of the vegan/gf ice creams just lacked...something? But since then I’m infatuated with Ben and Jerry’s non-dairy chunky monkey. Just a shame it’s so expensive!

What’s your most embarrassing childhood memory?

I have to pick just one? When when I was in primary school (around age 10) we did a school variety show and I was Scary Spice. My fake boobs fell out on stage. Make of that what you will...

What are your 3 Favourite Movies?

1. Black Narcissus

2. Shakespeare in Love

3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been?

Probably the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

What I’ve achieved academically. I somehow managed to get through three years of an undergraduate degree graduating with a First, won a scholarship to study in Stockholm for a year and achieved a Distinction in my MA. I’ve spoken at academic conferences (including in the United States), had academic stuff published.

Who would you like to live like for a day?

A poet who lives on an organic vegan farm.

If you could ask your pet 3 questions, what would they be?

1. You know I love you, right?

2. Where’s your favourite place to go for a walk?

When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?

Make a big bowl of pasta and watch Gilmore Girls.

Using one word, how would you describe your family?

Who is the kindest person you know?

It’s a toss up between my mum or my grandmother.

What is the scariest move you’ve ever seen?

I haven’t actually been scared by a movie lately. I used to be terrified of The Exorcist, but then I rewatched it at a later age and... boy, that film is not scary. Other than that there’s the that scene in Halloween where Michael Myers scares the women in the public toilets. That scene still terrifies me to this day.

Who’s your celebrity crush?

Ryan Reynolds, 100%

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Probably Beijing.

If you could shop for free at one store, which would you choose?

This is probably going to be a boring answer, but Tesco! People might pick clothes or bookstores, but if I have the chance to shop for free it’s going to be a supermarket where I can buy everything and anything.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A librarian!

What’s your favourite day of the week?

Friday, more specifically Friday 17:05.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Elijah Wood.

What’s the one food you could never bring yourself to eat?

A raw onion. Or any any animal products.

What’s your pet peeve?

People who walk in a group on a small pavement!

A few other facts about me!

1. I love, love love Bollywood.

2. I used to have green/blue hair (see pic below).

3. As well as Gilmore Girls, my favourite TV shows are Grimm, Grace & Frankie, The Good Place, and Empresses in the Palace.

4. I've lost count of how many Greek pop songs I can sing along to word for word (usually by Elena Paparizou.
